I believe in karma.
I also believe that nothing happens by accident.
Nothing. No matter what.
Good or bad, events that happen lead us to grow and learn about ourselves. They measure the strength of our mettle.
A short time back, at a visit to my dermatologist, I saw a random flyer on the counter. I picked it up.
It sang to me with its very simple title, Spare Clothes?
{Spare clothes? If I were to follow the 80/20 rule, I’d guess I wear 20% of my clothes 80% of the time. I could clothe a small army with the left-overs and not feel a draft.}
I read the remainder of the flyer. Here’s the nut:
Frugal Fashionista – the brainchild of a recent MSU graduate – is a clothing sale where proceeds support “Beyond the 11th” an organization started by two 9/11 widows to educate and empower Afghan widows.
Basically, by donating clothes (something that I LOVE and ADORE) I’m a woman, helping a young woman, who’s supporting two women who started an organization to help women who can’t help themselves.
As a woman, I felt the pull to act. I opened my closet and retrieved a pile of items I had intended to sell. Realizing this cause needs the funds much more than my clothing allowance, I grabbed more and more items, feeling exhilarated that my donation was helping a woman – either locally or internationally who needed it.
I met with the young MSU graduate recently over coffee. She’s got a firm handshake and had a gleam in her eye as she spoke of her fundraising event. She didn’t have to sell me, I was already sold. This fundraiser is akin to a fancy garage sale filled with untold treasures – all things a frugal fashionista like me gets chills over.
This fashion fundraiser also helps local women in need. All items that are not sold will be donated to local women’s groups and charities.
